Terms of Service

Last updated: 10 July 2026 (v3)

Who Can Use This Platform

Breaking of Bread is for adults. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old. The platform is not intended for, and must not be used by, anyone under 18.

Content You Submit

You retain ownership of the testimonies and other content you submit. By submitting content, you grant Breaking of Bread a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, store, reproduce, excerpt, adapt for format, display, and distribute your content for the purposes of operating and promoting the platform. This includes promotion across Breaking of Bread's own channels and through sponsors, partners, and third-party advertising.

If you add a location to a testimony, the city and country you choose are displayed publicly on the testimony, including when you publish it anonymously. Publishing anonymously hides your name, not the location you provide; if you would rather not show your city, leave the location field empty.

When your testimony is used for marketing or promotion, it is shown in anonymised form, with no name and no precise location, unless you originally published it anonymously. You choose whether a testimony may be used for marketing when you submit it, using the "do not feature in marketing" option, and you can later opt a testimony into marketing from its edit page. Opting a testimony into marketing is a one-way grant: adverts already published cannot be withdrawn. To stop future marketing use, delete the testimony or contact us at [email protected].

You can withdraw this licence for future use by deleting your content or your account at any time. Please note: published testimonies are anonymised rather than deleted upon account deletion, so the text of a published testimony will remain in the archive without your name attached.

Mentioning Other People

If your testimony names or describes other people, you confirm that you have the right to share it and that doing so does not defame them or unlawfully reveal private information about them. We ask you to use initials or aliases for others wherever possible. You agree to indemnify Breaking of Bread against any claim arising from content you submit.

Religious and Sensitive Information

Testimonies are likely to reveal religious belief, and may reveal information about health or other personal matters. Under UK data protection law these are "special category" data. By submitting and choosing to publish a testimony, you give your explicit consent to the publication of this information as part of your testimony. You can withdraw it by deleting the testimony or your account.

Prohibited Content

You must not submit content that:

  • Contains false or deliberately misleading claims
  • Is harmful, abusive, harassing, or threatening towards any person
  • Is spam or unsolicited promotional material
  • Infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party
  • Violates any applicable UK law

Moderation

Breaking of Bread reserves the right to review, remove, or reject any content that violates these terms, without notice. Accounts may be suspended or permanently terminated for repeated or serious violations. We aim to act fairly, but moderation decisions are final.

If You Are Mentioned in a Testimony

If you believe a testimony names or identifies you and you would like it reviewed or removed, contact us at [email protected]. We aim to review such requests within 14 days and will remove or anonymise content where appropriate.

Account Termination

You can delete your account at any time from the account settings page. We may also suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Upon deletion, your account data is hashed and your published testimonies are anonymised as described above.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The platform is provided "as is" and without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Breaking of Bread does not warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We are not liable for the accuracy, completeness, or legality of any user-submitted content.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from your use of the platform will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email before they take effect. Continued use of the platform after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
